Purpose and goals

The purpose of the project is to create an inventory of existing trail sections in Tornedalen that coincide or run parallel to the constructed T4 winter trail section and to develop a project description to transform T4 winter trail into a year-round trail that takes visitors from ”Mountains to sea.”. 

The goal of the project is to document attractions, rest areas, beautiful viewpoints, lakes, mountains that may be important for the establishment of hiking trails and to create documentation of existing trail sections that coincide or run parallel to the T4 winter trail section. Compile inventory material to create a Project description ”T4 from mountains to sea – year-round.” The inventory project should, through collaboration and cooperation with stakeholders, such as landowners, village associations, entrepreneurs, etc., lead to the implementation project; T4 hiking trail from mountains to sea.

The activities in the project are to inventory and reconnaissance existing hiking trails in Kiruna, Pajala, Övertorneå, and Haparanda municipalities. Travel by car, ATV, and on foot, documentation of existing trail sections as well as complementing undocumented trails by creating GPX files. Look at existing trail sections in T4 parallel to other trails that can create hiking from Mountains to Sea. Consultation meetings with village associations, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders in land issues.
